Accidental or Potential Exposure
Responding to an Exposure
A potential exposure may include a splash to the face and/or eyes, cut or puncture with sharps, contact with broken skin, or accidental ingestion. Do the following if exposed:
- Encourage needlesticks and cuts to bleed; gently wash with soap and water for five minutes
- Flush splashes to the nose, mouth, or skin with water
- Flush eyes at the nearest eyewash station with clean water for 15 minutes
- Call 911 or seek medical attention for all injuries and biological exposures
